Modern culture has created an illusion that possessing more bring us a better life. We're too hurried, too rushed and too stressed, worked long hours to pay off our bill but still fall deep into debt. We work hard to earn more money, more money allow us to satisfy our desire and then it brought more debt. It's an endless loop in desire. We won't be able to clear off debt when we hold our passion to possess more.
Less Comparison
We often want something when our surrounding have it. Example, our friend getting new handphone with all the latest technology, but we already have a phone that fulfill our need. We will still try to get the new phone by convince ourselves with a bunch of ridiculous excuses. The phone has 12 core with 3.1Ghz, like we know how's that can help us, maybe other people will reply us in split second because of the processing speed. The phone screen won't be scratch, but we will still buy screen protector for it, hmm.. USD 10 screen protector has better protection than USD 1K phone screen. And a lot more excuse but when been question about the usage,
- What you use the phone for? Errr.. I use it for call, message, take photo & video, play game..
- Your current phone not able to do that? Err.. Can.. but it start to getting slow.. Sometimes, the call is not clear..
- Have you utilise all the features in your current phone? Errr... Of course I did, I maximise the usage of the phone by playing game...
Well.. Most of the time, we already have what we need but when we see what other people have. Our desire to get the same or better thing will arise. Because we want to feel great, we want to be acknowledge that we are better than others. Less comparison, less desire to pursue new material, less stress to pay off debt.
Freedom from duplicity
Live your life, not other people's life. There is no need to follow what other people pursuing, new phone, new car, new house.. What's the difference between you and others? Try to be doppelganger? If you have a chance to have the same success, glamour, property as another person with a condition, you have to bear the stress, problem, trouble that the person has, will you accept it? It's the Internal that we need to look into, not the External. Look inside for what you want, dump the material desire little by little. Pursuing happiness internally not externally. Material desire might make you feel happy and great for a moment, but what comes after is the burden of paying debt.
Less desire, less debt, less stress
When we have less desire, we will spend less, hence less stress in settling the debt. When I mean less, I don't mean you can't get the thing that adding value to your life, it's to remove the desire to pursue the trend. Focus more on what we have, not what we don't. Walk the path towards our internal world.
